How to choose a plan in the Health Insurance Marketplace

How to pick the right health insurance plan how do you find a health insurance plan that fits your budget and meets your needs?

A good plan protects you and your family at a price that’s right for you.
You can feel safe knowing that all Marketplace plans cover a core set of essential health benefits, like check-ups, having a baby, emergency care, prescription drugs and more. Most Marketplace plans must also include free preventive care like shots and screening tests. And don’t worry if you have a pre-existing condition.

You’ll see the same plans at the same cost as everyone else. You can’t be denied coverage. Here are a few things to think about before you look at health insurance plans:Health insurance is a contract between you and your insurance company. You buy a plan, and the company agrees to pay part of your medical costs when you get sick or hurt.

Get lower costs on monthly premiums in the Health

When you shop for insurance at the health insurance marketplace you’ll find good quality health plans, and by answering a few simple questions we’ll be able to see whether you’re eligible for one or more no cost or low cost insurance programs, like Medicaid, the children’s Health Insurance program, and a new benefit called the Advance Premium Tax Credit.
Which is available only through the Health Insurance Marketplace. What makes the Advance Premium Tax Credit “advanced” is that you get the credit each month, instead of waiting until you file your Federal tax returns the next year.

With APTC, part of your monthly payment is made by the Federal government directly to the health plan in which you’ve enrolled.

Game of Loans

I’m guessing you’ve heard of the acclaimed TV show “Game of Thrones. ” Seven kingdoms vying for power, plots within plots, watch your back or lose your head. It’s great. But you’ve probably never heard of a real life drama that I call the “Game of Loans. ”That’s a game Washington politicians play on young people, that is, college students, every day.

Just like “Game of Thrones,” the “Game of Loans” has plots within plots, big winners and big losers. The winners are politicians and colleges. They fool students into thinking that by generously providing ever-larger college loans to cover ever-larger tuition costs, they have earned students’ votes at election time. Why do I say students are fooled? Because it is thanksto the very politicians who promise students more and more aid -- in league with the colleges-- that college tuition became so expensive in the first place. Here’s how the game works.

What Is a Home Equity Loan?

A home equity loan is simply where you're taking a second mortgage against your house. So, I know that might sound a little confusing, but let me give you an example.

Let's say my house is worth $300,000, and I have a mortgage on it, and I owe $200,000 on that mortgage. So, that means there's $100,000 of equity there in that property. And one of the challenges, sometime, is you pay your mortgage down, you might want to use that equity or some of that value, for other financial goals you're looking to achieve. So, how do you do that?

The way you do that, is by taking out a home equity loan against the property. And most home equity loans might be a 10 or 20 year loan, and you're borrowing the money. And typically you're gonna pay a little higher interest rate than you would on your regular mortgage, because, technically, if you don't make your payments, the bank that holds the first mortgage has the first right to your collateral. And the lender for the second mortgage, or the home equity loan, would be next in line. So because of that, there's a little bit more risk, and you'll often be assessed a little bit more interest, because of that risk.

Introduction to Mortgage Loans

This is me right here. And I've been able to save up $125,000 dollars. I've been able to save up $125,000 but I would really liketo live in that house so I go to a bank. I go to a bank, let me get a good color for a bank. That is the bank right there. And I say, "Mr. Bank, can you lend me"the rest of the amount I need for that house?"Which is essentially $375,000. I'm putting 25% down. This number right here, that is 25% of $500,000. So I ask the bank, "Can I have a loan for the balance? Can I have $375,000 loan?"And the bank says, "Sure. You seem like a nice guy"with a good job who has good credit rating. "I will give you the loan but while you'repaying off the loan you can't have the title of that house.
"We have to have that title of the house"and once you pay off the loan,"we're going to give you the title of the house. "What's gonna happen here is the loan is gonna go to me,so it's $375,000. $375,000 loan. Then I can go and buy the house. I'm gonna give the total $500,000,$500,000 to the seller of the house, and I'll actually move into the house myself, assuming I'm using it for my own residence. But the title of the house, the documentthat says who actually owns the house. This is the home title. This is the title of the house. Home title. It will not go to me.

NanoGriptech: Gecko-Inspired Adhesives

Dexterous climbers, geckos have long been a source of inspiration for materials scientists. The lizards boast a unique sticking ability, allowing them to climb walls and hang upside down.

“Nature’s had millions of years to evolve solutions” and “humans have been engineering only for hundreds,” says Paul Glass, vice president of engineering at nanoGriptech, in an interview with R&D Magazine. “I think there’s limits to what we can learn from nature, but it’s a fantastic starting point.”

For close to a year, nanoGriptech has been offering the world’s first commercially available dry adhesive technology inspired by geckos. Called Setex, the product has applications in a variety of industries from sports and apparel to upholstery and manufacturing.

NanoGriptech’s beginnings lie at Carnegie Mellon Univ.’s campus. At the time, Glass was a PhD student studying biomedical engineering. His thesis research focused on applying biologically inspired materials to medical devices. On top of exploring gecko-inspired microstructure materials, he delved into polymers inspired by marine mussels.

Nanotweezer to create advanced plasmonic technologies

A new type of "nanotweezer" capable of positioning tiny objects quickly and accurately and freezing them in place could enable improved nanoscale sensing methods and aid research to manufacture advanced technologies such as quantum computers and ultra-high-resolution displays.

The device, fabricated at Purdue Univ.'s Birck Nanotechnology Center, uses a cylindrical gold "nanoantenna" with a diameter of 320 nm, or about 1/300th the width of a human hair. The structures concentrate and absorb light, resulting in "plasmonic hotspots" and making it possible to manipulate nanometer-scale objects suspended in a fluid.

"The proposed approach enables the immediate implementation of a myriad of exciting applications," said Alexandra Boltasseva, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Findings are detailed in a paper appearing online in Nature Nanotechnology.

Empathizing with Human-like Robots

James Coan, a psychology professor at the Univ. of Virginia, claims empathy is hardwired into the human brain. Given enough time and familiarity, you begin associating friends, spouses and lovers with yourself. A lover’s pain becomes your pain; their joy, your joy, and so forth.

Using electroencephalography (EEG) studies on 15 adults, Japanese researchers found neurophysiological evidence of humans’ ability to empathize with robots in perceived painful situations. Albeit, there are still some differences when it comes to human-human empathy versus human-robot.

Study participants were shown a series of photographs showing human and robot hands cutting fruit with knives. In four photos, the human and robot hands are positioned in such a manner it appears as if they’ll cut their fingers.
“The ascending phase of P3 (350 to 500 msec after the stimulus presentation) showed a positive shift in the observer for a human in pain in comparison with no-pain condition, but not for a robot in perceived pain. Then, the difference between empathy toward humans and robots disappeared in the descending phase of P3 (500 to 650 msec),” said Michiteru Kitazaki, an associate professor at Toyohashi Univ. of Technology.
